The allergy that manifests itself with the running nose, weepy eyes and lots of sneezing is almost the same problem as asthma, except that it is found in the upper airways instead of those found in the lungs. Because it is so similar, it can be treated effectively with the Buteyko Method.
When the person hyperventilates or breathes in excess to the amount of air that the body actually needs, then extra pollen or dust is inhaled. If the breathing is done through the mouth, then this is even worse because the mouth does not filter out these particles in the same way that the nose does. Even if these particles are lodging in the lower airways, they can still cause a problem in the upper ones, so breathing through the nose is a must for hay fever sufferers. This will help to limit the volume of air being inhaled and cause less irritation to sensitive airways.
Hyperventilation also causes a loss of carbon dioxide within the lungs and bloodstream, and this leads to an increased production of mucus and histamines. Histamines are chemicals that are powerful bronchoconstrictors. Which simply means that they cause swelling within the airway inner linings, increased mucus production, and also tightening of airway smooth muscles.
To stop your allergic reaction, raising the pressure of carbon dioxide would be the second most important step to take. You can do this simply by doing the Buteyko nose-clearing exercise several times [LINK TO THIS EXERCISE ON PAGE ???? I'LL GET BACK TO YOU WITH THAT]
A third factor that may help in stopping an acute allergic reaction is to take shower, wash your hair, and change your clothes to rid yourself of any allergens that are sitting on you. If it is the environment that is causing the problem, such as sitting at a dusty desk, then using a damp cloth to remove the irritants will help.
If the allergy is severe, then seek medical help at once. At times, airway swelling can be so extreme as to cause a total closure of the airways, and in this case medical help is required immediately.

Not all allergies are caused by inhaling the irritants, some are caused by touching irritants, and these allergies often manifest themselves by skin reactions. Raising the carbon dioxide pressure will help to reduce the level of histamines produced, but it is unlikely that this will be sufficient to completely remove the irritation.
It would therefore be prudent to rapidly remove yourself from the situation, wash your skin and hair as soon as is practical, as well as changing your clothes to remove any irritants from your skin. It may also be be necessary to clean furniture, the floor and the surface of anything else that you are coming in contact with, which might be causing the problem.
