Aspects of Living

As an asthmatic, life can sometimes feel a struggle. Once asthma develops, it can change your approach to different situations and can also affect you differently at various stages of your life. Sometimes, you will need to make compromises for asthma and perhaps change some aspects of living, particularly if it is severe. Travelling, for instance, needs to be planned with asthma in mind by traveling with your required medications incase of attacks.

Often, life can go on pretty much as normal if your asthma is properly managed. Child asthmatics sometimes have to saved from themselves. A child often resents being made to come inside when they would rather be running and playing outside with their friends in the cool evening air. An alternative, quieter activity for all may be the answer. If you have asthma here are three things to remember:

  1. Take care of your health. Asthmatics particularly need to look after their general well-being.
  2. Be aware of your immediate environment. If you have triggers, it may be possible to avoid them by using commonsense measures. For example, if you have needed more reliever than usual this week, then avoid red wine if it is one of your triggers
  3. Monitor your asthma daily.

This section looks at various aspects of living, how asthma can affect it, and what you can do to overcome it.
