Entertaining with Asthma

If possible, find out if your asthmatic guests have allergies to food or drinks. When preparing the menu avoid foods that are likely to cause problems for your family or your friends. Many asthmatics cannot drink red or sparkling wine, or won't touch beer and it is possible for sea food to cause allergies and asthma.

If you as an asthmatic are preparing the evening, party or event then take things as calmly as possible because stress is a great asthma trigger. Be well organised and start your preparations early so that you have time for a rest before it starts.

If your visitors smoke then you can advise them that your house is a smoke-free zone because cigarette smoke is a common asthma trigger.

Loud and long laughter is enough to cause most asthmatics to become breathless. This is not something you can plan for or avoid, and to be honest, who would want to? Keep your medication close at hand in case it is needed.
