Buteyko trials

The first trial of the Buteyko method outside of Russia was conducted in Brisbane, Australia by Doctors Simon Bowler and Charles Mitchell. It was published in the Medical Journal of Australia, and showed a 96% reduction in bronchodilator use, 49% reduction in inhaled steroids, and a 71% reduction in symptoms.

The second trial, completed in Gisborne New Zealand and published in the New Zealand Medical Journal, mirrored the Brisbane trial, and showed that Buteyko was still effective after six months instead of three.

The third trial was done in the UK and published in the Thorax, showing a 100% reduction in bronchodilators in those with mild asthma.

A fourth trial conducted in Canada showed that Buteyko was more effective at managing asthma than conventional treatments. It was published in the Respiratory Medicine Journal.

Another study published in the New Zealand Medical Journal revealed that children could also benefit greatly by using the Buteyko method.

The Thorax published another report of a Buteyko trial in Scotland that fully supports the Buteyko method.

The Buteyko method can even be successfully taught by video it seems in a study that was published in the Journal of Asthma.

One earlier study conducted by Konstantin Buteyko et al and published on MEDLINE shows that as early as 1968, he was getting good results with people who have asthma by having these people change their breathing.
