If you have a secret hankering to wear a white coat and to play doctor, then perhaps it would be best to consider taking on another profession because the The Buteyko method is essentially an education programme and not a medical treatment.
Buteyko is not about 'treating' people, instead it is about empowering them through education so that they have the knowledge to help themselves.
Similarly, if you like to be 'the boss', then teaching the Buteyko method is probably not a good idea either because once you teach people these techniques they are going to be able help themselves. Their brain fog will lift and they will be able to make their own decisions, based on the good information you have provided them with.
The majority of Buteyko educators are people who either suffered from a breathing problem or who have a close friend or family member who had an almost miraculous recovery from their asthma, snoring, sleep apnoea or panic attacks, and decided that they wanted to help others get the same benefits.
Qualities that make people good at teaching the Buteyko method include:
Professor Buteyko was fond of saying that Andrey Novozhilov, who currently runs the Moscow clinic was the youngest practitioner in the world. When Andrey was ten years old, Buteyko taught him how to teach the techniques to his mother. With this thought in mind, it was decided that there would be no pre-requisites required to enrol in a Buteyko New Zealand practitioner training course. The training is provided at many levels, which suits all levels of understanding.
